Client: Interior Plc

Architect: Rolfe Judd

Main Contractor: ISG

Approximate Construction Cost: £3 million

This project involved total refurbishment of an existing five storey building for retail and office use.

The concrete of the existing floor slabs were found to be extremely low in strength. All the slabs were, therefore, demolished and reconstructed using reinforced concrete slabs on profiled steel sheeting. The existing steel frame was strengthened in order to provide increased imposed load capacity and to allow for a future two storey rear extension. Structural alterations to the lift and stair cores were carried out to provide a two storey entrance area.

Carefully sequencing of the work and extensive temporary works were required in order to maintain overall stability of the building during reconstruction of the floor slabs.
