The Red Lion public house in Mayfair was largely rebuilt behind a retained facade, with a new 3 storey basement and swimming pool, to create a large new residential property. L+C were responsible for both the permanent and temporary works structural designs. The basement is formed within a four-sided box of contiguous piling. The retained facade had to be held in place while the rest of the superstructure was demolished and then while the basement was formed underneath. The aim was to create the maximum space within a very tight site.
